Position Summary

The Pharmacist - Dispensing Manager plays a pivotal role at Akina Pharmacy by leading and managing a team of dispensing pharmacists and technicians to ensure the accurate and efficient preparation of compounded medications. This position requires a skilled leader who can motivate and develop a high-performing team, foster accountability, and maintain a focus on achieving strict turn-around time metrics and operational excellence.

In this role, you will oversee daily dispensing operations, optimize workflows to ensure accuracy and efficiency, and build a culture of excellence by setting clear expectations and providing ongoing coaching and feedback. As a key leader within the pharmacy, you will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve operational challenges and drive continuous process improvements that enhance quality and customer satisfaction.

  • Lead, Manage, and Build an Accountable Team:
    • Recruit, develop, and retain a team of skilled dispensing pharmacists and technicians. Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and foster a culture of accountability to ensure consistent, high-quality performance.

    • Inspire the dispensing team to meet and exceed turn-around time, accuracy, and quality metrics by implementing effective workflows, coaching for continuous improvement, and recognizing achievements.
  • Streamline Dispensing Operations and Meet Key Performance Metrics:
    • Oversee daily dispensing operations to ensure seamless execution of workflows while continuously monitoring and adjusting priorities to achieve operational goals and maintain high customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and Implement Clear Processes:
    • Define, document, and maintain processes that streamline operations, reduce errors, and ensure adherence to Akina’s quality standards and protocols (core processes followed by all (FBA))
  • Train and Empower the Dispensing Team:
  • Design and deliver comprehensive training programs for dispensing staff, ensuring competency in procedures, quality control, and safety protocols. Act as a resource for problem-solving and cross-departmental coordination to support the pharmacy’s overall success.

We train our team to help them succeed, and everyone on our team helps with our success. In this role, you’ll be accountable for hitting the following numbers:

  • Lead, manage and take accountability for quarterly process improvement projects (3-5 a quarter)
  • Develop, maintain and report KPIs for Operations (Pharmacy Operations, Materials Management, Quality and Customer Service) (Up to 20 Metrics, continuously)
  • Manage ongoing administrative and operations tasks (5-10 a week)

Experience and Qualifications

  • Pharmacist Licensure: Active and unrestricted pharmacist license (PharmD preferred).
  • Leadership and Management Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience managing teams in a pharmacy or healthcare setting, with a proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
  • Operational Expertise in Pharmacy Dispensing: Strong understanding of pharmacy operations, including workflow optimization, quality control, and turn-around time metrics in a dispensing environment.
  • Performance Management Skills: Demonstrated ability to set, monitor, and achieve key performance indicators (KPIs) related to accuracy, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Proven Communication and Collaboration Abilities: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage internal and external relationships, resolve conflicts, and align cross-functional teams.
  • Process Improvement Mindset: Experience in identifying inefficiencies, implementing process improvements, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational outcomes.
  • Preferred Experience with Compounding Pharmacies: Familiarity with 503A or 503B compounding pharmacies is a plus but not required.
