Position Summary
The Clinical Compounding Pharmacist is a vital member of the Akina Pharmacy team, responsible for ensuring the accurate verification of compounded medications. This role requires a detail-oriented, highly organized pharmacist who can work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while upholding the highest quality and safety standards.

In this role, you will oversee prescription accuracy, verify compounded medications, and collaborate with
pharmacy technicians to ensure timely order processing. You will also assist in maintaining compliance with
internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality control processes. Success in this position is driven

  • Prescription Verification and Accuracy:
    • Accurately verify prescriptions by reviewing the appropriateness and completeness of medication orders, ensuring 100% of orders are verified within 48 hours to maintain safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.
  • Patient Counseling and Provider Support:
    • Deliver outstanding customer service through effective communication during inbound and outbound calls with patients and providers, ensuring clarity, care, and professionalism.
  • Internal Clinical Support for Sales/Marketing Team:
    • Provide expert clinical insights to the sales and marketing team by preparing educational materials, offering usage guidance, and helping communicate product efficacy—bridging clinical knowledge with client engagement to enhance value delivery.
  • Supervision of Pharmacy Technician – Data Entry Team:
    • Oversee the data entry team by providing consistent training, guidance, and feedback to ensure prescription accuracy, reduce turnaround time, and uphold Akina’s quality standards in all processing activities.
  • Prescription Clarification:
    • Manage the Additional Information Requested (AIR) and Rph consult bucket process by promptly clarifying prescription errors or missing details with healthcare providers, ensuring complete, compliant orders and maintaining clear documentation throughout.

  • Review and verify prescriptions for clinical appropriateness, completeness, and compliance—ensuring 100% of orders are processed within 48 hours.
  • Manage inbound and outbound communications with patients and providers, delivering effective counseling and timely prescriber consultations that reflect Akina’s service standards with 90% efficiency rating on RPh consult bucket.
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing by providing clinical expertise, preparing educational content, and responding to product inquiries within 24-48 hours to support informed client engagement.

Experience and Qualifications
  • Pharmacist Licensure: Active and unrestricted Virginia pharmacist license (PharmD preferred).
  • Operational Expertise in 503A Clinical Pharmacy: Strong understanding of pharmacy operations, including workflow optimization, quality control, and turn-around time metrics.
  • Attention to Detail: Proven ability to ensure accuracy in prescription processing.
  • Technology Proficiency: Comfortable using pharmacy management systems and software for order verification, documentation, and workflow management.
  • Workflow and Time Management: Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining precision and quality standards.
  • Process Improvement Mindset: Experience in identifying inefficiencies, implementing process improvements, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational outcomes.
  • Preferred Experience with Compounding Pharmacies: Familiarity with 503A or 503B compounding pharmacies is a plus but not required.
